Probably one of the most famous Dalmatian Islands, Hvar is blessed with beautiful scenery and plenty of nice cultural and historical monuments. The ancient buildings inside Medieval Hvar's old center, founded as Pharos in 385 BC, are well preserved. You can visit the Cathedral of St. Stephen with its 17th century Bell Tower and Renaissance paintings, adore the skyline from the Spanjola Fortress, walk around its main square Pjaca or explore Loggia, remains of the former Governor's Palace. Nearby, you can visit the 15th century Franciscan Monastery, the stone paves quay Fabrika or the archeological findings in Saint Mark's church.

Besides historical highlights, Hvar is also blessed with superb beaches and plenty of water activities including speedboat trips, banana boat rides and jet skis. The Pakleni Islands (other names are Hell's Islands, Paklini Islands, Resin Islands) are a less than 10km long limestone archipelago near Hvar harbor, known for its superb scuba diving and snorkeling. These limestone islands are less than 10km long and offer plenty of hidden bays and popular beaches such as Stipanska, Palmizana and Mlini Beach. The most touristic islands are Sveti Klement (Big Island) and Jerolim. This part of the Adriatic Sea is paradise with warm deep blue colored waters and an excellent underwater scuba diving world.

Other things to do around Hvar are the caves (špilja) Grapceva and Markova where pottery and many other artifacts have been found. You can explore the fertile plains of Stari Grad, adore the small port of Jelsa or hike up to Hvar's highest point Saint Nicola at 626 meters high.
