Krk is a touristic island located on the northern side of Kvarner Bay just to the south of Rijeka, Croatia, connected by bridge with mainland Europe. It is the largest island in the north Adriatic Sea; a place with plenty of resorts, water sport activities, cultural monuments, pretty pebble beaches and a thriving night scene.
Some of the highlights on Krk are Krk Town with its Medieval town walls, gates and Frankopan Castle on Kamplin square. You can explore the rich ethnographical differences while shopping for some cloths and fruits at the Vela market place. Just to the east of Krk Town near Punat on the island Košljun, you can take a boat to explore the Franciscan monastery and its museum. There are many cathedrals, churches and chapels in styles resembling all historic time periods. Other attractions are the cave Biserujka in Rudine, the picturesque port of Malinska and the Baska Tablet from Jurandvor.
The south offers barren limestone plains with thick forests towards Baška, while the more fertile and populated north is partly cultivated and has plenty of towns such as Omišalj and Vrbnik. One of the most famous sandy beaches on Krk is Baška Beach (Bašhka) on the south coast where you can also find the uninhabited island Prvic, which offers many beautiful dive sites. Scuba diving is also popular offshore the islet Plavnik which literally means coral. Its good protection from wind and waves has resulted in excellent coral growth, a rich and numerous underwater world and clear warm blue waters.
